About the Author/Program creator

Curt Hinson, Ph.D., taught at the elementary school level for 16 years.  In addition, he has taught part-time at the university level for 13 years.  His daily experiences on the elementary school playground led him to create the Trouble-free Playground program.  Curt holds a BS degree in Health & PE from West Virginia Wesleyan College; a Master's of Education degree from Widener University; and a PhD in Kinesiology from Temple University.

Curt is the author of three books, Fitness for Children (Human Kinetics, 1995); Games Kids Should Play at Recess (PE Publishing, 1997, 2001); and 6-Steps to a Trouble-free Playground (PE Publishing, 2001).  In addition, Curt has published over 50 articles related to teaching and has made presentations in 49 states.  His practical, hands-on teaching techniques, along with his enthusiasm, make him one of the most dynamic educators in the country.

Curt was the 1992 NASPE Eastern District Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year and the 1991 Delaware Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year.

The Trouble-free Playground program is currently being implemented at schools in all 50 states.
